Here is a video by CollegeBoard explaining Digital SAT in more detail

Digital SAT vs. Paper-based SAT

Digital SAT holds several advantages over the traditional SAT format in terms of time duration, results availability, and level of difficulty. Some key changes:

  • The time duration for the Digital SAT is expected to come down to two hours from the current three hours. Students should be able to get their scores much faster than the current process which takes weeks.

  • Passages within the Reading Comprehension section will be shorter with only one question tied to each passage. This will shift the focus to analyzing the shorter passage for the relevant answer.

  • Moreover, students will be allowed to use a Calculator for the entire Math section. This will reduce the focus from calculation to choosing the right approach. These are significant changes that will make the SAT exam more relevant and in tune with the current university expectations.

  • Test takers will also be able to clearly see how much time is remaining to reduce the stress level while taking the test and flag test questions that may require additional time and that they want to go back to. Worrying about lost points due to stray pencil marks or improperly filled bubbles on an answer sheet will be a thing of the past.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is SAT?

The SAT® is a globally recognized undergraduate admission test that lets you show colleges how well you have learned and can apply knowledge in areas key to academic success: reading, writing and language, and math. All U.S. colleges and universities accept SAT results during the admissions process.

SAT is a registered trademark of the College Board, used under license.

Why SAT?

Students looking to enroll in undergraduate programs in the US appear for their SAT. Most of the colleges in the US require SAT for admission to undergraduate courses. Apart from this, many schools also offer SAT scholarship money to students based on their SAT results.

Types of SAT

Conducted by the College Board, SAT 1 or more commonly referred to as the Scholastic Assessment Test is required to be taken by students seeking admission to undergraduate schools. SAT 1 is a general test that has been developed to evaluate the written, verbal and mathematical skills of candidates. SAT 2, on the other hand, is a more subject-focused test. Students looking to get admission to a particular course are required to take the SAT Subject Test to demonstrate their knowledge of that particular subject. SAT Subjects are discontinued by the College Board from June 2021. Now aspirants just need to take the SAT 2022 for getting admission to their desired UG course.

How is the SAT Test scored?

Each section of the SATs Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and Math is scored on a 200-800 point scale. Your total SAT score is the sum of your section scores. Also, if you take the SAT with Essay then the candidate will receive a separate score.

What is the difference between SAT and ACT?

Most of the colleges in the US accept either SATs or American College Testing (ACT) for admissions to their undergraduate programs, so, students looking to get into these courses are required to take these tests. However, it is important to know which exam you should take. Firstly, check the requirement of the college you are applying to whether they require the SAT or ACT, then decide on which exam you should go for.

Where can I take the SAT in Dubai?

Many schools in Dubai offer the SAT. The SAT exam in UAE is conducted in various locations in SAT Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Al Ain.

How many times can I take the SAT?

The SAT exam can be taken as many times as you want. The test is offered multiple times a year and there is no such restriction placed on how many times one can appear for it.

Many schools allow you to use Score Choice, or to pick and choose which scores from which test dates you want to send as part of your college application. Not all schools support the use of Score Choice, however, and they take it in good faith that you'll send all your scores.

Some notable schools with a "send all scores" policy include Yale, Stanford, Cornell, Carnegie Mellon, and the University of California.

Taking the SAT tests is not compulsory for most universities in Canada. However, if one does take the SAT or ACT, they can still use it to strengthen their application & improve the chances of a scholarship. In general, if you are studying in an American curriculum school, you need to take the SAT.
