Can I resit the UCAT if I am unhappy with my score?

Not within the same application cycle. You sit it once per year. If your 2026 score is below target, your options are to apply strategically with that score or to reapply in a future cycle after resitting in the next year's test window. It is not a permanent one-attempt limit, just one per cycle.

Is online testing available for UAE students?

The Pearson VUE OnVUE online proctored option is available in many countries, including the UAE. Check current availability at ucat.ac.uk before booking, as approved locations are confirmed each cycle.

Does a low score mean I cannot get into medical school?

Not necessarily. Some universities weigh UCAT lightly or use it as one component of a combined score alongside academics. Strategic university selection matters significantly. Speak to an admissions adviser to identify where your profile is most competitive.

What is the SJT Band, and does it affect my total score?

The SJT scores you as Band 1 (highest) to Band 4 (lowest). It does not contribute to your 900–2700 cognitive total. However, Band 4 causes automatic rejection at Edinburgh, Keele, and several other schools regardless of your cognitive score. It is scored and used entirely independently.

Do I need to send my results to universities myself?

No. Results are automatically sent to UCAT consortium universities in November. You can also include your score on your UCAS form, but this is optional.

Can I sit the UCAT in a gap year?

Yes. Students in a gap year can sit the UCAT in 2026 for 2027 entry. Your result is valid for that application cycle only and cannot be carried forward to a future cycle.

Can I appeal my grade?

Yes, through the Enquiry Upon Results (EUR) process. Your coordinator submits the request, and the IBO re-evaluates specific components. Grades can go up or down, so discuss with your coordinator and, ideally, with an experienced tutor who knows the subject well before deciding whether to proceed.

What if I miss my university offer?

Contact the university the same day. Many institutions have flexibility, especially for students who narrowly miss conditions. In the UK, UCAS Clearing opens simultaneously with results and runs until October.

What happens if I fail CAS?

Failure to complete CAS means no diploma, regardless of your scores. If this applies to you, speak to your coordinator urgently about whether any outstanding CAS activity can still be counted.

How do I know if my results have reached my university?

Check with your IB coordinator that a transcript request was submitted to each institution before 5 July. You can also log in to university applicant portals or UCAS Track to confirm receipt.

Can I retake specific subjects rather than the whole diploma?

Yes. You can retake individual subjects in a future session and carry forward your previous subject grades. Your coordinator can advise on which route makes sense for your situation.

Do I need to speak Italian to study Medicine in Italy?

No. The programs covered by the IMAT are taught entirely in English. You will encounter Italian-speaking patients during clinical rotations in Years 4 to 6, so basic Italian is practically useful even if academically not required. Most universities offer Italian language classes for international students.

Is NEET required to sit the IMAT?

No. NEET is not required for IMAT registration or Italian university admission. However, if you are an Indian student who plans to return to India and practice medicine after graduation, the NMC requires that you held a valid NEET qualifying score at the time of your original university enrollment. You do not need a high rank, just a qualifying score.

Can I choose more than one Italian university?

EU students can rank multiple universities on Universitaly and participate in rounds of seat allocation as seats become available. Non-EU students apply to one university only. There is no second chance within the same cycle if your score does not clear your chosen university's cut-off. This is the most important rule to understand before deciding where to apply.

What happens if I miss the registration window?

The IMAT is offered once per year. If you miss registration, you wait until 2027. Registration typically closes within 9 to 12 days of opening, and test centre seats in popular locations fill within hours. Have your Universitaly account created and payment card ready before registration opens.

Are there scholarships available?

Some Italian universities and the Italian government offer merit-based scholarships and DSU grants. Eligibility is generally assessed after admission. It is worth researching your target university's scholarship page, but do not build your financial plan around it.

How is the IMAT different now from a few years ago?

Since CINECA took over from Cambridge Assessment in 2024, the exam has placed more weight on direct science knowledge in Biology and Chemistry and reduced abstract logical reasoning. Students who prepare with resources from 2023 and earlier should be aware that the question style has shifted. Use 2024 and 2025 past papers as your primary preparation material.

Can I still apply to Columbia or Princeton without a score this autumn?

Yes. Both remain test-optional for the 2026-27 cycle only. From 2027-28, both require scores. If you are applying this autumn and do not have a score, these two are still technically available test-optional. But keep in mind that the students who do submit scores at these schools cluster in the 1480 to 1570 range, so going test-optional is increasingly a disadvantage rather than a neutral choice.

Do IB or A-level results substitute for the SAT?

Not at schools that now require testing. Yale previously accepted AP and IB scores through its test-flexible policy, but ended that in May 2026. Strong IB or A-level results strengthen your application but do not replace the SAT requirement.

How many times should I sit the SAT?

Two to three sittings is the sweet spot for most students. The first gives you a real baseline. The second lets you act on what you learned. A third is worth it if superscoring can push your composite meaningfully higher.

Is the ACT equally accepted?

Yes, at every Ivy and every major US university. Take diagnostics in both before deciding which to pursue.

When should I start SAT prep if I am in Year 11?

Ideally in September or October of Year 11, giving you 8 to 10 months before your first sitting. Students who enrol in SAT classes in Dubai at this stage consistently achieve stronger scores than those who start in the three months before the exam

When does the new format apply?

It took effect for the 2026 entry and remains unchanged for the 2027 entry, with applications opening on 1 September 2026.

Is the character limit still 4,000?

Yes, shared across all three sections, with a minimum of 350 characters per section.

Can AI tools be used to write the personal statement?

UCAS screens for AI-generated and copied content, so any AI tool should be used only for brainstorming rather than for drafting the final answers.

Can I apply for MBBS abroad if my NEET score is low but qualifying?

Yes. For Georgia, Russia, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan, NMC-approved universities only require a qualifying NEET score, not a competitive rank. The rank determines Indian government seat eligibility. For international admissions, qualifying is enough.

Is my 2026 NEET score valid if I want to apply in 2027 or 2028?

Yes. NEET scores are valid for three years for MBBS abroad admissions. A 2026 score can be used for admissions in 2027 and 2028.

Does NEET matter for UK, Ireland, Italy, Australia, or Czech Republic admissions?

No. None of these countries use NEET as an admissions criterion. However, Indian students who complete MBBS in any of these countries and wish to practice in India will still need to have held a valid NEET qualifying score at the time of their original university enrollment, as required by NMC.

What happens if I score below 360 in NEET 2026?

You do not meet the NMC minimum qualifying marks. Do not pay any deposit to any university abroad. You cannot obtain the NMC Eligibility Certificate without a qualifying NEET score, which means you cannot sit NExT and cannot practice medicine in India. Reattempt NEET in 2027.

Is Georgia still a good option given the government university ban?

Yes. The seven NMC-approved private universities that remain open for 2026 admissions were already delivering Georgia's strongest FMGE outcomes. The ban affected public universities. The private pathway remains viable and, for the right university choice, competitive on outcomes.

How quickly do I need to act after results?

For Russia, immediately. Most universities close from July to August, and visa invitation letters take 30 to 45 days from the Russian Ministry. For Georgia, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan, the window is somewhat more flexible, but seats fill on a first-come, first-served basis and the better universities fill fastest.

Can I switch from one test to the other partway through my prep?

Yes, though it costs you time rather than money. Since the scoring scales are not directly comparable, switching usually means restarting your practice testing rather than converting a current score.

Do any schools still require the GMAT over the GRE?

A small number of programs, particularly some finance-focused or highly quantitative MBA tracks, express a mild preference for the GMAT, but almost none require it outright anymore. Checking each program's current admissions page is worth doing, since policies shift year to year.

How many times can I retake each exam?

Both allow up to five attempts in a rolling 12-month period. The GMAT requires a 16-day wait between attempts, and the GRE requires 21 days. Neither exam currently has a lifetime attempt cap.

Which test is cheaper in 2026?

The gap has nearly closed. The GMAT costs 275 dollars at a test center or 300 dollars online, and the GRE now costs 249 dollars worldwide following its August 2026 fee increase.

Is the GRE accepted for MBA programs in the UAE and wider Gulf region?

Yes. Most MBA programs in Dubai and across the Gulf that accept international standardized test scores accept both the GMAT and the GRE, mirroring the broader global trend.

How long should I prepare before test day?

Most successful test-takers spend 8 to 12 weeks and 100 to 120 hours of focused study, though this varies with how far your baseline diagnostic score sits from the target score for your programs.
