The GMAT Official Guide 2022 is the official and in our view the best resource for your GMAT prep.
GMAT Official Guide helps you get familiar with the GMAT exam structure—the Verbal, Quantitative, and Integrated Reasoning sections—and test yourself with the GMAT™ Mini Quiz!
There are various helpful GMAT prep books, but the Official Guide is the only one that features real questions from past GMAT exams and is offered exclusively by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), the owner and administrator of the GMAT.

What’s new in the GMAT Official Guide 2022?
According to mba.com, “This year’s edition, I can confidently say, has more features than ever before to help candidates evaluate their skills, build their knowledge, and track their performance,” says Shaifali Gupta, Product Management Senior Manager for the GMAT exam.
Here are five new features in this year’s Official Guide:
The new Official Guide Exclusive Online Diagnostic Evaluations include three separate diagnostic tests, one each for the Verbal, Quantitative, and Integrated Reasoning sections of the exam. Each test includes questions from different fundamental skill groups to cover a wide variety of topics and difficulty levels for each exam section. “This should help you gauge your strengths and weaknesses at the beginning of your prep journey so you can do a more focused prep as you progress.”
The new Verbal Review chapter builds on the introductory content of past guides, including a fuller review of the verbal concepts that are useful in developing all the skills you will need to answer Verbal Reasoning questions. This new chapter includes 25 new additional practice questions from real past exams to help you practice the concepts you just reviewed within the chapter.
The new Quant Review chapter organizes the content based on the different fundamental skill groups, for example, algebra, geometry, value order and factors etc. Similar to the new Verbal review chapter, this chapter also includes 25 additional practice questions. These new Verbal & Quant Review Chapters help you with the breakdown of the content, helping you do a more targeted or focused study.
Quick Quantitative Reference Sheets: You can review common quantitative formulas and concepts to master the quantitative section of the GMAT exam. “These reference sheets will be a very handy resource for our candidates to review common formulas and concepts that you will need while doing practice questions,” adds Gupta.
Updated Answer Explanations: Study the reasoning behind the answers to help improve your performance.

Should you buy OG 2022 if you have the 2021 edition?
Absolutely not! The new guide contains no new questions and only has superficial updates. If you do not have an Official Guide, then you should get the latest version. You can get an electronic version on Amazon or from Wiley but if you need a print version now, you can get the OG 2021, and don't wait to start your prep. Note: OG 2022 contains no new Questions compared to OG 2021 and in fact contains 3 fewer questions (#655, 839, and 917 were removed)
Should you wait to start your prep till July?
Definitely not. This is not a deciding factor. Do not base your decision on the Official Guide.
Do I need any other materials besides the Official Guide?
In terms of questions, we at GuideMe believe it is the absolute Gold Standard in terms of GMAT Prep, but in terms of notes & other theory needed for concepts in Math & English – it’s clearly not enough. You will need some kind of source of foundational knowledge as well as strategies.
You can certainly get help from many of the popular prep books by MGMAT, Kaplan, or Veritas Prep but for most people, they’re overwhelming, and honestly – we feel that they provide way more information than needed and often that not only confuses the students but also scares them away from doing a timely proper GMAT prep.

Is there an overlap between the Official Guide 2021 or 2022 and GMAT Prep?
No, there is not
What are the additional Quant and Verbal Official Guides?
These are sources of additional Quant and Verbal questions. Each has 300 Quant and 300 verbal questions. They are also updated with about 30-50 new questions each year. There is no overlap with the BIG official guide.
Error Log for The GMAT Official Guide 2022
The Official Guide 2022 is a great resource - it has real GMAT questions, but it has one major flaw – there is no way to sample specific questions or ability to target a specific area - for example, all Sentence Correction questions with tenses or all Data Sufficiency questions that deal with geometry. This Error Log attempts to correct that flaw (and a little bit more), making the Official Guide even better.
