Important note for UAE students:

Due to the regional conflict earlier this year, IB students across the UAE did not sit traditional final exams in the May 2026 session. Results will be awarded through the Non-Exam Contingency Measure (NECM), an alternative grading system used in place of formal examinations for both the IB Diploma and Career-related programmes. Your coordinator will walk you through what this means for your specific results.

What Time Are Results Released?

IB result day

The IBO releases results to schools one day early, on Sunday 5 July 2026 at 12:00 PM GMT. Your IB coordinator will already know your results before you log in. Do not be surprised if your school reaches out on the evening of 5 July or first thing on the morning of 6 July.

How to Access Your IB Results

Step 1: Get your credentials: Your IB coordinator should have shared your personal candidate code and PIN before results day. If you have not received them by late June, contact your coordinator immediately.

Step 2: Go to the right portal: Visit the official IB candidate results website at candidates.ibo.org. This is the only official portal. Do not use third-party sites

.

Step 3: Log in carefully: Enter your personal code and PIN exactly as provided. The portal typically experiences high traffic right at 12:00 PM GMT, so if you get an error, wait a few minutes and try again.

Step 4: Read your results: You will see your overall IB Diploma score, individual subject grades, and your Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge grades.

Step 5: Save and download: Screenshot or download your results immediately. Some universities need you to self-submit your scores, while others receive them directly from the IBO. Check your offer letters.

Understanding Your IB Score

IB result day

What Each Grade Means

Grade

Label

What It Reflects

7

Outstanding

Exceptional work across all components

6

Very good

Strong performance with minor gaps

5

Good

Solid understanding, some room to grow

4

Satisfactory

Adequate but not competitive for top universities

3

Mediocre

Below expectations, may affect diploma award

2

Poor

Significant concerns for diploma completion

1

Very poor

Failing grade

To be awarded the IB Diploma, you must:

● Score at least 24 points overall

● Score at least 12 points across your 3 Higher Level subjects

● Score at least 9 points across your 3 Standard Level subjects

● Complete all CAS requirements

● Avoid any failing conditions (a grade 1 in any subject, two or more grade 2s, or a grade N in TOK or the Extended Essay)

How the 2026 Global Picture Looks

Based on the most recent completed session (May 2025), here is where the world stands heading into 2026.

UAE students consistently outperform the global average. GEMS schools achieved an average of 34 points and a 95% pass rate in 2025, well above the global averages of 30.58 and 81.26%, respectively. Schools under Innoventures Education recorded a 100% pass rate, and students collectively won over $18 million in university scholarships.

What to Do on Results Day

If You Are Happy With Your Results

Celebrate, genuinely. Two years of hard work led to this moment, and it deserves recognition.

Then get practical:

● Check your conditional university offers and confirm your acceptance directly with the admissions office

● Make sure your results have been sent to all universities you have applied to (the IBO can send transcripts electronically, but confirm with your coordinator that the request was submitted before 5 July)

● If you applied through UCAS in the UK, log in and check your offer status as universities will begin confirming places from the morning of results day

If Your Results Are Lower Than Expected

First: Do not panic. There are real options available to you, and acting quickly is more important than spiralling.

Option 1: Request an Enquiry Upon Results (EUR)

If you believe a grade does not reflect your actual performance, your IB coordinator can submit a formal remark request on your behalf. Here is what you need to know:

Detail

Information

Cost

Approximately $70 to $120 per subject

Refund policy

Fee refunded if your grade increases

Risk

Grades can go up, stay the same, or go down

Deadline

Mid-September 2026 for May session

Who submits

Your IB coordinator, not you directly

Option 2: Contact Your University Directly

Do not wait for the university to reach out. Call or email the admissions office the same day. Many universities, especially those that know the IB well, will consider students who narrowly miss offer conditions. They may offer:

● Acceptance anyway, especially if you are close

● A deferred start or foundation year

● Transfer to a related programme

Option 3: Explore UCAS Clearing (UK applicants)

UCAS Clearing runs from July through October and is specifically designed for students who did not meet their offer conditions or who are exploring new options. Thousands of university places are available through clearing every year, and it carries far less stigma than many students expect.

Option 4: Retake Exams in November 2026

You can retake individual subjects in the November 2026 session (October 23 to November 13). This is a strong option if you are aiming for a specific score threshold for a university programme. Starting preparation early gives you a real advantage.

If You Did Not Receive the Diploma

Receiving individual subject certificates instead of the full diploma does not close doors. Many universities and employers accept strong subject-level performance. You can also:

● Complete outstanding requirements (such as CAS) and apply for diploma certification in a future session

● Retake subjects where your grade fell below the minimum

● Speak with a career counsellor about alternative academic or professional pathways that value your IB coursework

What Do 'P' and 'N' Mean on Your Results?

These two codes cause a lot of confusion on results day.

Code

Meaning

What to Do

P

Grade pending, result not yet finalised

Contact your IB coordinator immediately

N

Grade not awarded, a requirement was not completed

Speak to your coordinator about next steps

If you see either of these, do not assume the worst. There are often administrative reasons behind them, and your coordinator is your first call.

What Universities Typically Expect

ib results 2026

Entry requirements differ significantly by course and by country. A score of 38 might secure a place in one Medicine programme while another requires 42. Always verify the exact requirements for your chosen course on the university's admissions page.

How to Send Your Results to Universities

Most universities that accept IB students are already set up to receive results directly from the IBO. However, you should still verify the following:

● Ask your IB coordinator whether your transcript request was submitted before 5 July 2026 (this ensures universities receive results electronically on results day itself)

● Some universities, particularly in the US, may require you to self-report scores through their portal initially and then send official transcripts later

● UK universities via UCAS receive results automatically if you included your IB candidate number in your application

● For universities in the UAE, Europe, or elsewhere, confirm the process directly with each institution's admissions office

A Note for Parents

Results day is an emotional day for families too, and your role matters more than you might realise. Here is some genuinely useful guidance:

Before results drop:

● Make sure your child has their login credentials ready

● Have a stable internet connection and a backup device if possible

● Agree on a plan for all outcomes beforehand so nothing feels completely uncharted

Whatever the results say:

● Lead with support, not immediate problem-solving

● Avoid comparing to siblings, classmates, or your own expectations

● Understand that a 28 and a 40 can both lead to excellent futures depending on the student and the path

If results are not as expected:

● Your child needs calm and options, not panic

● There are always next steps, and the IB is recognised and respected globally regardless of score

● Reach out to the school or to a professional adviser quickly so you can act before deadlines pass

Quick-Reference Checklist for Results Day

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I appeal my grade?

Yes, through the Enquiry Upon Results (EUR) process. Your coordinator submits the request, and the IBO re-evaluates specific components. Grades can go up or down, so discuss with your coordinator and, ideally, with an experienced tutor who knows the subject well before deciding whether to proceed.

What if I miss my university offer?

Contact the university the same day. Many institutions have flexibility, especially for students who narrowly miss conditions. In the UK, UCAS Clearing opens simultaneously with results and runs until October.

What happens if I fail CAS?

Failure to complete CAS means no diploma, regardless of your scores. If this applies to you, speak to your coordinator urgently about whether any outstanding CAS activity can still be counted.

How do I know if my results have reached my university?

Check with your IB coordinator that a transcript request was submitted to each institution before 5 July. You can also log in to university applicant portals or UCAS Track to confirm receipt.

Can I retake specific subjects rather than the whole diploma?

Yes. You can retake individual subjects in a future session and carry forward your previous subject grades. Your coordinator can advise on which route makes sense for your situation.
