What Is the IMAT?

The IMAT is a single 100-minute, 60-question multiple-choice exam administered simultaneously at test centres worldwide. It is the only criterion for admission to English-taught Medicine and Surgery, Dentistry, and Veterinary Medicine at Italian public universities. Caution on cut-offs: These figures are volatile year to year. Bari was 31.2 in 2023, 65.8 in 2024, and 49.3–56.5 in 2025. Never plan your preparation around a single year's cut-off. Build toward a target of 60 or above, and you open realistic options at multiple universities. A score of 70 and above puts you in contention at the most competitive schools.

For non-EU students, the most important rule: You apply to one university only. There is no preference list or scrolling for non-EU applicants.
